A very succinct vision in relation to the type of childcare and the environment that we wanted to provide for the children and families of the Sunshince Coast, was developed long before the building was chosen.  The vision was and is:

  • To provide a setting where children are encouraged to reconnect with nature and where play is recognised as a pathway to life-long learning.
  • To create and maintain a supportive, inviting and nurturing environment for children and their families.
  • To provide access to enthusiastic and enabled professionals, who realise the importance of nurturing the lives of young children based on sound principles of early childhood education, child development and practice.

Looking to provide a service that would combine the charm and warmth of ‘Grandma’s House’ with the facilities required in a modern childcare service, we were immediately drawn to the building at 46 Schubert Road, Woombye.  The building was at that time ‘Characters Restaurant’ and many people around the area speak favourably of attending functions here.  Wanting to embrace that rich heritage the name ‘Little Characters Early Learning Centre’ was an obvious choice.  The building was 100 years old the year of purchase and the owners were very hands on in the building process to convert the building for usage as a childcare centre.
